Milan, 29th May 2012Emirates is boosting its operations in Europe by announcing a third daily flight from Milano Malpensa from June 1ST, taking to 49 the number of weekly flights offered to Dubai.

Emirates EK 102 departs Milan at 11.10 and arrives in Dubai at 19.20. The return flight, EK 101, departs Dubai at 03.40 and arrives in Milan Malpensa at 08.25. The new service will be operated by a 237-seat Airbus A330-200 in a three-class configuration.

“Our European network is growing stronger and stronger and a number of important developments are taking place in Italy”, said Salem Obaidalla, Emirates’ Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Europe & Russian Federation. “This is another significant investment in the Italian market and we look forward to offering further choice and excellent value for money to travellers and businesses, including the cargo community”.

The extra A330-200 flight brings an additional tonnes of daily cargo capacity to an already active cargo route.

“The new flight is yet another promise kept by Emirates in our country: an important investment that brings Milan to be connected to Dubai and the world three times a day, ensuring maximum flexibility for those who travel for business or pleasure”, explained Massimo Massini, Area Manager Italy & States of ex Yugoslavian Republic.

“We are particularly satisfied with the excellent results achieved, a testament to the success of the Company, which has been operating from our airport for 12 years now”, said Giuseppe Bonomi, President of SEA (Società esercizi aeroportuali).“The addition of a third flight to Milan Malpensa’s daily service gives passengers wider and more flexible options as far as departure times and connections to other destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia. This new additional flight service confirms Malpensa as one of the most important European gateways to the Middle East and Asia, and today I would like to remind everyone that our airport is poised to welcome latest generation aircraft like the A380”, concluded Bonomi.

Inaugurated in 2000, Milan Malpensa airport served the first A380 commercial flight on the occasion of the presentation of the sponsorship agreement with AC Milan on 29th July 2010.

For travellers flying out of Milan Malpensa, Emirates guarantees exclusive services, including free chauffeur transfers to and from the airport for First and Business Class passengers and an extra 10 kg baggage allowance over other airlines for all Economy, Business and First Class passengers (i.e., 30 kg, 40 kg and 50kg respectively).

“Weekly Emirates flights from Italy,” continued Massini, “will increase from 42 to 49: an important goal that not only elevates the role of our country within the Company’s global network, but strengthens the partnership between Emirates and Italy in terms of business, growth, travel and exportation”.

Italy was also the first country in Emirates' southern European network to be selected for an A380 service. A 489-seat double decker was deployed on the Rome route from 1st December last year.

In February 2010, Emirates signed a five-year, €59.5 million (AED 288 million) shirt sponsorship deal with AC Milan, part of a €3.5 billion (AED 16.8 billion) trade relationship between Italy and the UAE.

“Our expansion in Europe is particularly significant in these challenging economic times. We are creating and supporting jobs in the travel industry and many other related sectors, while opening up new markets to importers and exporters," Obaidalla added.

The latest expansion in Italy comes after news that the airline's Venice flight would go twice daily from 25th March.

With a fleet of 171 aircraft (and 233 on order for a total value of more than €65 billion), Emirates now reaches 123 destinations in 72 countries. The airline has recently started services to Dublin, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Lusaka, Harare, Dallas, Seattle, and will be launching Ho Chi Minh City on 4th June, Barcelona on 3rd July, Lisbon from 9th July and Washington, D.C. on 12th September.
